You may wish to consider this test if you want to check your level of important hormones or:

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) means the replacement of any hormone that is missing in the body.

In this case, HRT refers specifically to the replacement of hormones in women, which are no longer produced during the perimenopausal (leading up to the menopause) period or after the menopause (last period) itself.

If you are taking HRT medication, then the levels of these hormones will be restored and symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, sleep disturbance, low mood, irritability and low sex drive should be alleviated.

This HRT profile Test will check that your hormones are optimally balanced whilst taking your HRT medication.

If you are taking HRT and have any symptoms that indicate your hormones may not be optimal as listed above, then the HRT profile home test will quickly give you an oversight.

You should consult your doctor if the test results are of concern.

Our Menopause Test will assess your menopausal status by measuring the levels of five key hormones involved in regulating the reproductive cycle.

Hormones regulate different processes and systems within your body including digestion, lactation, metabolism and reproduction.

Changes in hormone levels can indicate a pending or established menopause, or issues with the pituitary or thyroid glands. If you have been experiencing symptoms such as hot flushes, mood swings or erratic periods, this screen is suitable for you.

Prostate Screen can help to detect prostate cancer. The test measures the level of prostate-specific antigen (PSA). This is a protein, made only by the prostate gland, which can be produced by normal and cancerous prostate cells.

Most men will have a small amount of PSA in their blood. A heightened level may indicate an issue with your prostate.

This screen is suitable if you have experienced any of the following symptoms:

  • Needing to urinate more frequently, often during the night
  • Needing to rush to the toilet
  • Difficulty in starting to urinate
  • Straining or taking a long time while urinating
  • Weak urine flow
  • Feeling that your bladder has not emptied fully
  • Blood in urine
  • Blood in semen

Having one or more of these symptoms does not mean that you have prostate cancer. However, it is important to check your prostate health if you are concerned.

Many men experience an increase in the size of the prostate as they get older because of a non-cancerous condition called prostate enlargement. Signs that cancer may have spread include bone and back pain, a loss of appetite, pain in the testicles and unexplained weight loss.

The Cardiovascular Health test gives you insight into your cardiovascular health and determines whether your heart and blood vessels are functioning as well as they should be.

This can then indicate the risk of complications such as cardiovascular disease. Unlike other inflammatory markers that can be measured in blood, PLAC is a highly specific marker for coronary artery inflammation and so can provide a very useful insight into your cardiovascular health. PLAC is a shortened name for the lipoprotein (combination of fat and protein) enzyme Lp-PLA2 that is found in blood.

High levels of PLAC are closely linked to an increased risk of heart attack and stroke as they are an indicator of active cardiovascular disease rather than a theoretical risk of this. PLAC is carried in the blood to any fatty cholesterol deposit (plaque) lining the walls of the coronary arteries, causing an inflammatory response. This inflammation increases the chance of plaques breaking off and therefore causing a blockage of the coronary arteries (heart attack) or blood vessels within the brain (stroke).

This screen is suitable if you are concerned about your cardiovascular health, especially if you have medical risk factors such as:

  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Diabetes
  • A family history of cardiovascular issues
  • Or if you have lifestyle risks, including:
  • Smoking
  • Sedentary or low physical activity level
  • Unhealthy diet (high in fat and sugar)

This Bowel Cancer Test is designed to identify possible signs of bowel disease or cancer. This test can detect small amounts of blood in your faeces which you would not normally see or be aware of.

If you have had signs of bleeding, you may wish to consider this test.

Many bowel abnormalities, which may develop into cancer over time, are more likely to bleed than normal tissue. If there is blood in the stool, this can indicate the presence of abnormalities in the bowel. If cancer is diagnosed at an early stage, treatments are likely to be more effective.

Progesterone is a naturally produced hormone, that plays an important role in the menstrual cycle, fertility and pregnancy.

It has several important functions, including helping to prepare the uterus for embryo implantation and pregnancy. Progesterone levels increase after ovulation every month, but if ovulation does not occur, then Progesterone levels remain low.

The Better2Know Your Body Progesterone home test looks for the amount of Progesterone in your blood. For women who are planning to become pregnant, it is essential that ovulation occurs every month and an egg is released. A Progesterone home test performed on blood taken at day 21 of the menstrual cycle will identify whether ovulation has occurred.

For women with heavy, absent, irregular or painful periods, understanding the Progesterone level can help to understand whether fertility is likely to be affected or whether this could be the start of the lead up to the menopause, or some other reason.

This test is ideal for anyone wishing to establish the level of Progesterone in their blood. It is especially useful for women planning a pregnancy or who have been trying to conceive without success. The Progesterone home test is also suitable for women trying to understand the reason for their abnormal menstrual cycles.

Testosterone is one of the sex hormones. It is responsible for the development of male characteristics.

For men, it is produced in the testes and regulates sex drive, controls bone mass, fat distribution, muscle mass, strength, development of facial hair and the production of red blood cells and sperm.

Testosterone levels start to decline naturally in men after the age of 30. Abnormally low levels of testosterone can be caused by heavy alcohol consumption, liver disease and steroid use and may lead to erectile dysfunction (ED) and/ or infertility, loss of muscle mass and changes in body fat distribution.

While testosterone is the primary sex hormone produced by men, women also produce small amounts of testosterone in the ovaries.

Excessive levels of testosterone in women can lead to hirsutism (excessive body hair), head hair thinning, weight gain, menstrual irregularities and are often associated with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). A high level of testosterone in girls of pubescent age can delay the onset of puberty and the start of the menstrual cycle.

This Testosterone blood test is for men and women who want to determine their testosterone levels.

For men worried about ED and/or decreased sex drive or women with unusual symptoms as above, or a concern about PCOS, the testosterone home test could help to inform you as to the cause of the issue.
